Being Off-Grid. Our Eco & Sustainable Efforts.
The construction and operation of our tents and site can boast that 90% of all wood, materials, staff, labour, products and supplies are sourced from the Isle of Wight, the rest from the UK.
We use very little plastic and have only a few items of plastic equipment; Broom & pan, children's cups, bin-liners, wheelbarrow wheels, fairy light & other cables, water pipes, tent windows & lantern cases. Not much at all when you consider how well we are equipped for 32 glampers in 4 tents!
We use our two efficient solar panels to provide stored power for a fixed point power light in each room plus 2 USB charging points. This ensures our guests have some light & phone charge.
Our internal fairy lights are mainly solar powered.
Our fridge & two ring gas hob are gas powered.
Our water is heated by a wood burner situated in the family bathroom which also keeps the rear of the tent warm.
Our outdoor shower is gas fired.
Guests cooking and heating is on the other wood burning stove which is situated in the kitchen/ dining area. All of the wood, briquettes & lump wood charcoal that we supply are from the Island.
We supply a variety of wind-up & solar powered torches.
All of our 'candles' are LED lights.
We use Eco products where ever possible.
We recycle as much of our own and our guests waste as possible - separating glass from other recyclables, general waste from food waste.
We are a pet free & vehicle free site and actively encourage the use of bikes & public buses as transport. We are located on fabulous cycle paths, walking routes and No 7 bus route.
